Cyber and Domains Protection
The Cyber and Domains Protection team is part of the Government Digital Service (GDS), which is part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
The team protects critical government services that depend on the security of the .gov.uk domain.
Our priorities
Our priorities are to:
- manage the .gov.uk registry
- verify applications for .gov.uk domain names
- keep track of all of the .gov.uk domain names
- monitor the .gov.uk domain name space to find issues and help organisations fix them
- monitor other public sector domains to find issues and help organisations fix them
- make sure that .gov.uk domain names are registered with role-based government accounts
- provide organisations with support to solve any other DNS related administration or technical issues
Our services
The monitoring and sharing service checks UK public sector domains for misconfigurations and vulnerabilities and shares them with affected organisations.
The outreach service contacts organisations directly to help them fix the issues we find.
The supply and approvals service helps UK public sector organisations apply for their official internet domain names and make sure they are available and protected.
