Create an executive presentation

Share your CAF for local government findings with your senior leadership and management team.

Once you’ve completed your improvement and implementation plan, we recommend you communicate the findings to your senior leaders, so everyone can understand your cyber risk.

The presentation does not have to go into detail on the whole CAF process. Think about the messages that will resonate with your senior management team.

Focus on the main findings and where your council needs to take action, especially if:

  • you have limited time to present
  • your audience are not familiar with the technicalities of cyber security

Use our template to create an executive presentation for senior leaders

We have created a presentation template to help you share findings and recommendations from the assurance stage with senior leaders and decision makers.

This template includes slides to communicate the approach taken, assessment summary, recommendations and proposed next steps.

Pick the slides you want to use to meet your needs in presenting to senior leaders. For example, use part of the template to provide a headline summary or reorder sections to best communicate your message.

After you have completed the template, share it with the assurer who will provide feedback before you present it.

You can also invite your assurer to attend the presentation to help answer any questions your senior leaders may have.

Share learnings with your council

The CAF process is a good opportunity to raise awareness of cyber security across your council.

People from across your council will have been involved in the self-assessment process, including IT and cyber teams, service teams, governance and risk teams. Keep them updated with the results and next steps.

To share and encourage conversations across the council, you might want to:

  • talk to your communications team
  • share a short summary
  • share findings and next steps at team meetings and council-wide meetings
  • share periodic updates on progress made with the self-assessment, the required improvements, and wider implementation plans

It would also be useful to think about how to share learnings as part of your organisational approach to risk management.

Building awareness across your organisation will help embed good cyber security practices.
